Have I calmed down? I think so.
Let’s recap shall we?
Well, a bunch of my friends and I went for a race (one that resembled the show The Amazing Race). We were COMPLETELY CERTAIN that we were the second team to arrive at the final pit stop. Then the girl (who was the supposed Phil Keoghan) told us that we were actually the third team to arrive. Ok, so those of you who didn’t go would say, “but at least you are in the top three!”
WRONG RESPONSE.
1st place = get $200 and some voucher
2nd prize = get $100
3rd place = nada. Zilch.
NOW, I admit that I personally (can’t speak for the whole team) was quite a sore loser. Yes, I was a sour grape. BUT you have to understand, it WOULDN’T BE HUMAN if I didn’t feel like it should have been us. And yes, kudos to the Purple team for wheeeezing past us, you guys were smooth and you outwit us.
The thing is, we just wanted to be sour for a while till we get to a better place and see that it wasn’t meant to be. So after we had showered and had dialled down the trash talking (which was unislamic, I realise, but that’s how we work..say it all out and then feel better), we did get to a somewhat better place…not so bitter anymore.
THEN came the prize giving ceremony.
Each group received some cool title/award/comment for something..example:
the black team - coolest team.
red - too late to apologise
pink - most cute (I think)
white - eyecandy
gray - the most fit
My group was called last, and the emcee said something like, “to the last group who hasn’t gotten anything yet…which group (voice trailing off)……the yellow team right……YES, the forgotten ones!” It was not only what she said, it was how she said it..
We didn’t take the final picture together, we left cos we were very hurt by the remark (especially because we were extremely upset when we came in third). I, who usually take the high road, was just itching to say something. So out came a paper and the scratching began. I didn’t mince words, for sure. My alter ego Sarcasimo came out! Of course I felt SUPER-HORRIBLE MUCH LATER especially cos one person caught up to us to apologise. It’s just that, I felt there are just soooo many ways they could have called us to the stage..like maybe: “team yellow! The team that was third to arrive!” OR “team yellow! The one who was consistently in the top 3”. I dunno…it was just like they were kicking a man when he’s down.
Ok so maybe we slightly overreacted, but WE WERE HURT NONETHELESS. Yes, it may have been unintentional, but we just didn’t think we could handle hanging around there. Bruised egos, you can call it that.
But honestly, despite allllll the drama, it was a great experience! I absolutely cannot lie about that. My favourite part? The dragon boat! Ok, archery was fun too..heheh. So now, I’m trying to forget the silly comments and focus on the happy memoriesss, and there are plenty :) For that, thanks organisers, you guys did good for a first-timer. Ok, now I’m nice and calm. Hehe.
